Comparison of Analytical-synthetic and Genetic methods os teaching primary reading

The diploma thesis deals with the teaching of early reading in elementary school. The thesis contains information about curriculum documents that are mandatory for primary school teaching in the Czech Republic. Furthermore, the diploma thesis presents historical methods of teaching elementary reading, divided into synthetic and analytical methods, the described methods were used in the Czech Republic in the past. I have allocated separate chapters for the currently most used teaching methods of reading in the Czech Republic, these are analytical-synthetic, genetic and global methods, the global method is more detailed in the historical concept of reading teaching in the Czech Republic, as it is not central to my work. In the diploma thesis, you will also find basic strategies and features in the teaching of elementary reading and writing, which are common to all teaching methods. The aim of the diploma thesis was the comparison of analytical-synthetic and genetic methods of reading. I focused on comparing the methods according to the stages of teaching and tried to find the advantages and disadvantages of both methods. Developing reading comprehension skills of low - achieving class 4

This thesis examines the development comprehension skills of low - achieving class 4 pupils with special focus on underperforming students. The thesis is divided into theoretical part, research, and practical part. The theoretical part defines reading skills in the context of "RVP ZV" (National Education Programme for Elementary Education) and the development of younger school-age readers. The thesis further examines reading literacy, types and qualities of reading, performance diagnostics in reading and underperforming readers. The research part maps students' reading skills in the form of case studies. The aim of this thesis is to diagnose current reading performance of students who have learned to read by various methods of initial reading. Suggestions for correcting reading deficiencies are also included. The practical part contains variety of techniques for working with underperforming readers.
Reading comprehension of pupils in the second grade of elementary school

The aim of this thesis is to assess the reading comprehension of pupils in the second grade of elementary school. This work focuses on possible existence of differences in reading comprehension of children taught using analytic-synthetic and genetic method. The content of this thesis is also a reading self-evaluation of these students. The theoretical part acquaints readers with the main topics related to the issue, with the help of available literature sources. It focuses particularly on issues of literacy, reading, reading comprehension, reading teaching methods, self-evaluation of reading, reader environment or reading diagnostics. Due to the research goals, for the practical part, quantitative methodology was used. The test battery includes two tests of reading comprehension and self-assessment questionnaire. Examination "We're going on a trip" is taken from a research project Reading comprehension- typical development and its risk. Comparison of practicing methods of initial reading and writing in relation to specific learning disorders

Theoretical part of this thesis comprises findings gathered by analyzing available specialized literature focused on specific learning disorders, methods of practicing of initial reading and writing, and Framework Education Program for Elementary Education. The practical part consists of research in a form of questionnaire survey, which compares both learning and writing training methods with respect to specific learning disorders as its main target. The main purpose of this research was to obtain and analyze opinions of specialists from counseling and school psychology clinics on methods of teaching reading and writing, furthermore how these methods may help avert the development of special learning disorders or which methods of teaching writing and reading might be associated with more frequent development of special learning disorders. The survey shows, that the most popular and the most suitable method for initial writing and reading practice according to inquired specialists is still the analytical-synthetic method, which sustains development of particular functions and it is coherent with child's natural phonological development. This diploma thesis is focused to the reading comprehension of the second class pupils at a primary school. The thesis is divided into the theoretical and the practical part. The theoretical part presents the basic concepts of mapping the issues, such as reading, literacy, reading comprehension; there are also introduced the educational methods (the analytic-synthetic and genetic) and the diagnostic techniques for determining the grade of the reading comprehension in pedagogical-psychological counseling. The ending of this part was dedicated the project Three-level model of care and the results of diagnostic screenings of reading analyzed in the works of P. Barešová (2009, 2010). The target of the practical part was the analysis of resulst of the second class pupils from new created Test of reading comprehension (Pokorná, Wolfová, Kucharská, in Kucharská, 2011). Bound and unbound font of writing in primary school

The thesis deals with the type of font of hand writing which is taught at the elementary schools it the Czech Republic its main symbols and methods of the font rating. In the theoretical part I define the basic concepts, introduces the history, development of writing, actual methods of teaching of hand writing at the elementary schools and the overview of exercise books for practicing of the very first hand writing. In the practical part, I find out using a questionnaire according to which criteria the teachers evaluate children's hand writing. The research part contains written work of children. I analyze the texts where I evaluate qualitative features (shape, size, gradient, binding, modification) of bound and unbound font of writing in the third grade of elementary school. To improve writing skills, I suggest specific didactic utilities, release exercises, act. Analysis of Pupils' Reading Level in 1st - 3rd Grade Focused on the Evolutionary Reading

The diploma thesis deals with the teaching of the first reading focused on the Genetic method. It is divided into theoretical and research part. The theoretical part contains an overview of currently used methods of teaching reading. The Genetic method is described from the historical and present point of view. Also included are an overview of available textbooks for teaching this method. Also it deals with the basic features of reading performance, with the reading level of pupils through diagnostic examinations and with working with lagging readers. The research part deals with the analysis of reading level of pupils of the 1st - 3rd year of the Genetic method. The analysis was performed using diagnostic examinations, which were recorded and subsequently analyzed on the basis of basic reading characters. The research is focused primarily on mistakes against the qualities of reading, which are detailed and compared.
Analysing Third-year Primary Pupils´ Reading Skills in Relation to the Reading Method

The diploma thesis deals with the reading level of pupils in the third year, who in the first year learned to read by different methods. The thesis is divided into theoretical and research parts. The theoretical part deals with the characteristics of pupils at the younger school age, the development of reading skills, the teaching of early reading by the analytical-synthetic, genetic and Sfumato methods. Furthermore, it defines reading literacy, and refers to international research surveys, types and qualities of reading, diagnosis of reading, reading defects and their correction. The research part focuses on the diagnosis of the reading performance of pupils in the 3rd grade of primary school. The reading results are evaluated according to the criteria based on the theoretical part of the thesis.

It analyzes methods, that were taught in our territory during the past, and shows their benefits for current methods of teaching elementary reading. The research part is focused on comparing analytical-synthesis method and genetic method of reading from the viewpoint of reading comprehension, accuracy, fluency and reading speed.
